Spring water, 2014, digital c-print,59 x 39.3 inches (150 x 100 cm)

The legendary place where Kobo-Daishi (Kukai), who was a Japansse Buddhist monk,  caused water to emerge, forming the spring. This miraculous act is repeated throughout the nation by Kukai. Fresh water has been cherished from time immemorial, and villages are formed from where fresh water is located. This is the first place where a village (Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture) that was devastated by the tsunami was created. The building that covered the fountain was washed away by the tsunami, but the fountain remained safe. I was inspired by the villagers who continue to protect this fountain.
